Dearest Jane,

I met up with Hilario again at a party last week. I could tell, even then, he still had no idea who he was speaking with. Last night, he and I met over dinner. A quaint Thai place. I dropped a couple of hints but he was as dense as lead! Finally, I had to pretend lust and suggest that we leave for some place quieter. Unfortunately, he did not wish to take me to his home and I certainly could not bring him back to the Chantry. So, I settled for some conversation in the car. I had to be very heavy handed with my clues for him to realize that I was Kindred.

Once he figured it out, the conversation got that much more interesting. He apparently is fairly old for someone who is so unobservant. Also, I made the wrong assumption about his clan. He rather boldly told me his and asked for mine. I was surprised at his sudden rudeness. He explained he preferred bluntness to obscurity. I, however, prefer the proper etiquette.

Still, it appears this will be a good relationship. I am the first of his acquaintances in the area. He abhors the limelight - which is unusual for an orator. Perhaps, it is merely a way of protecting the Masquerade. In any case, I will be seeing him at the Aragon courts and I intend to keep up the acquaintance. I believe it could be good for both of us.

There was one thing that my meeting with Hilario made me realize. I have been in the States for about ten months now. As I grow more familiar to this place, I need to have a place of my own away from the Chantry so I may entertain guests or whatever else I wish to do with another person who is not Tremere. An apartment somewhere... not on Concord or Aragon soil.

When I spoke to Booker about it, he surprised me, yet again, by not only agreeing but stating he would make the arrangements to ensure my safety in the matter. Of course, this will mean that he knows where the apartment will be, but I suspect he would know in any case. I do not mind.

Also, I am pondering establishing myself a bit more fully in the Academic arena in this area - such as it is. I will be writing a series of articles for one of the local historical periodicals. I am debating between Mythic Legends Based on Historic Fact - a series that will explore some of the more interesting legends I know or Celtic Artifacts: Treasures & Trinkets - a series that will explore some of the recently discovered Celtic artifacts and their historic value. Perhaps, I will end up doing both.

Well, I have nattered on long enough, my dear. Until next time.

Love,
Kayley
