Dearest Jane,

I have quite the tale for you this evening. I was at one of those parties this evening with the express purpose to discuss an environmental bill I had heard about with some of the politicians I knew would be there. While I was making my rounds, spreading the flattery and discussing my opinion of the environmental bill, I noticed an extremely handsome man who moved too gracefully to be human. As I kept my eye upon him, I saw that he noticed me as well. Eventually, I maneuvered my way to a window alone to see if he would approach me. He did.

He introduced himself to me as Hilario Rincon Mendez, a man of definite political opinions. As we began to speak, he did not seem to realize that I was kindred. It surprised me. Perhaps, it should not have. He spent much of his time admiring the other women in the room and himself - not necessarily in that order. Apparently, as I did not immediately fawn upon him and his good looks, I did not interest him - until he asked me why I there.

Once I mention the environmental bill, my thoughts on it and my desire to persuade the politicians to my point of view, Hilario became another man. He listened to me then began to speak about the bill, raising his voice slightly so it would carry throughout the room. Suddenly, I realized as he began to wax eloquently about protecting the parks in Contra Costa County, he was putting on a show for the rest. I became his 'straight person' - to ask the appropriate questions or comment at the right time, allowing him to continue the topic and convince people of his point of view.

It was amazing to see. He had a very charismatic presence. I know he impressed a number of people, including the two representatives that I had been intending to persuade to my way of thinking. Suddenly, I no longer had a need to worry. I am certain the bill will fail now.

After the 'show' was over, I thanked him for what he had done and offered him my card, receiving his in return. I decided it was time to make an exit while I could. Hilario seemed most disappointed then mentioned that he was a masseuse. He told me that if I ever needed to relax after a day of environmental lobbying, I should call him. That was when I realized that he still did not know I was kindred. To cover, I murmured an enigmatic "Perhaps." to him and left without a backward glance.

I will call him in a couple of weeks to meet up with him again. He has a great talent of persuasion. That is a very useful thing. I would like to speak to him privately - kindred to kindred. I suspect that it might be a bit awkward until let him in on my little secret. However, if he tries to feed from me before then, there will be hell to pay. I will not brook such behavior and ignorance is not an excuse. Well, no use worrying about 'what ifs.' We shall see what we shall see.

Love,
Kayley
